let's start counting
albeit slowly, we'll get therewe'll reach the safest shore
out of the crashing waves, far from the chilly breeze
we'll build our sanctuary from piles of stones and sprinkles of sand
we'll dig our feet deep into the cooling earth
till they disappear, till they were no more than a lump of figure
we'll build campfires
watching the night stars floating the sky
listening to the crackle of fire and crickets singing
we'll write our own song side by side
and sing it with croaky voice in sullen melody
the damp blanket shielding the throbbing pain
of loneliness and near to despair
we'll count the distance from here to the sun
and how long it takes to feel its glowing warmth
or if we even survived the long night
to make it to that beautiful sunrise
we'll chant our prayers in unison
for it is the only thing we have left
when all dreams turn nightmares
so here we are, still counting at our best
waiting for the storm to subside
straining our eyes for the slightest flicker from a lighthouse
hope against hope that the countdown will end
let's start counting
salam ziarah
